The Ultimate Guide: How to Get the Best Results for Your Brand
Transitioning your brand's visual identity is a big step. Whether you’re updating executive headshots, building out cohesive team packages or capturing the energy of a corporate event, preparation is the key to imagery that looks polished, approachable and authentically "you."
As a photographer specialising in corporate work, I’ve seen firsthand how a little pre-planning transforms camera-shy teams into confident professionals. Here is your step-by-step guide to preparing your team and your space for a successful shoot.
Corporate Headshots & Team Packages
Consistency is everything in corporate branding. When clients, partners, or investors look at your "About Us" page, they should see a unified team. Here is how to get everyone ready.
1. Wardrobe & Styling
Stick to Brand-Aligned Colours: Solid, neutral tones (navy, grey, charcoal, deep blue) work best as a base. Add pops of your brand colours through ties, scarves, or blouses.
Avoid Distracting Patterns: Busy checks, tight houndstooth, and high-contrast stripes can create a distracting visual effect on camera (known as moiré).
Keep It Professional & Comfortable: Wear what makes you feel confident. Tailored blazers, structured sweaters and collared shirts are timeless. Ensure clothes are freshly pressed and lint-rolled before arriving on set.
Accessories: Keep jewellery simple and classic so it doesn’t distract from the face.
2. Hair and Makeup
Keep It Natural: Aim for an enhanced version of your everyday look.
Manage Shine: Studio lighting can highlight natural skin oils. A light dusting of translucent powder or blotting papers works wonders right before stepping in front of the camera.
Hair Care: If you’re getting a fresh haircut, try to do it a week before the shoot so it has time to settle. Bring hair ties, brushes, or styling products for quick touch-ups.
3. Mental Preparation
Breathe: Almost everyone says, "I hate having my photo taken." That’s completely normal! My job is to guide you through poses, micro-expressions and angles so you don’t have to think about it.
Practice Your Smile: Spend a minute in front of a mirror finding the expression that feels most natural to you.
Corporate Events
From annual conferences and product launches to holiday parties and networking mixers, event photography captures the pulse of your company culture.
1. Define the Shot List & Priorities
Key Moments: Let me know the must-capture moments in advance—keynote speakers, award presentations, ribbon-cuttings or VIP arrivals.
Candid vs. Posed: Do you want a documentary-style approach focusing on natural interactions, or do you need plenty of grip-and-grin staged networking photos? Knowing the balance helps me move through the room effectively.
2. Prep the Venue
Lighting Check: Natural light is great, but mixed lighting (fluorescent overheads + warm window light) can throw off skin tones. I bring professional lighting gear to handle this, but giving me a heads-up on venue quirks helps.
Tidiness Counts: Clear clutter from registration desks, stages, and common areas. A clean background makes the final gallery look much more high-end.
VIP Coordination: If there are key executives or special guests who need priority coverage, designate an internal point person to guide me to them.
3. Communicate with Attendees
Let your guests know ahead of time that a photographer will be present (often included in event registration fine print) so they can dress accordingly and aren't surprised by the camera.
What to Expect on Shoot Day
Knowing the timeline reduces day-of stress for everyone involved.
Walkthrough & Setup: I will arrive early to scout the best lighting angles, set up equipment and test the environment.
The Session: For headshots, I work efficiently with each team member (usually 5–10 minutes per person), reviewing shots on-screen so they can see what's working. For events, I blend into the background to capture authentic moments without disrupting the flow.
Post-Production & Delivery: After the shoot, I curate and professionally retouch the best images. You’ll receive a secure, high-resolution online gallery optimised for both print and web/LinkedIn use.
